High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Maldives
High Commissioner Mohamed Rizvi Hassen is a career diplomat from the Sri Lanka Foreign Service (SLFS) who has been serving in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism since 2000.
High Commissioner Hassen has held a range of key leadership roles throughout his career, including: in Consular Affairs Division, Publicity Division, Public Communications Division, Director of Foreign Affairs – Presidential Secretariat Chief of Protocol, Director General of Ocean Affairs, Environment and Climate Change as well as the Director General of the Overseas Assets Management Division.
High Commissioner Hassen has attended several international conferences and led the Government of Sri Lanka delegation to Third United Nations Ocean Conference, SACEP environmental meeting and IORA Working Group on Maritime Security and Safety Senior Officials meeting.
He has served in Sri Lankan Missions abroad in Stockholm, Washington, and Kuala Lumpur and he has also served as the Ambassador to the Republic of Türkiye with concurrent accreditation to Ukraine and Georgia.
High Commissioner Hassen obtained Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Colombo, and possesses an LLB (UK) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Buckinghamshire New University. He has completed Professional Level 1 of the Sri Lanka Chartered Institute of Accountants. He is currently pursuing an LLM at the University of Colombo and the Attorney-at-Law qualification at Sri Lanka Law College. He has authored a research thesis on a managerial model for accessing climate change–related financial mechanisms.
